Starbucks (SBUX) on Wednesday traded nearly seven times the 20-day average equity volume and 10 times the average daily options volume as the shares fell nearly 16%. It was the fourth-worst trading day for Starbucks since the company's IPO in 1992. And with respect to China specifically, Starbucks said the recovery there has been "choppy" with intense price wars. Starbucks reported $8.56 billion in second-quarter revenue, which represents a year-on-year decline of 1.8%. Don't try to catch a falling knife This presents a significant challenge for an investor in Starbucks stock.

Asked for proof of his claim that Mr. Biden was personally directing the local cases against him, Mr. Trump pointed to purported ties between prosecutors and “Washington,” but provided no evidence that Mr. Biden had been involved in any of the hiring decisions, conversations or meetings that Mr. Trump cited. The writer E. Jean Carroll filed her first lawsuit against Mr. Trump in November 2019, accusing him of defamation. Faulty and irrelevant comparisonsWhat Mr. Trump Said“I got indicted more than Al Capone.”— in a rally in Ohio in MarchFalse. Mr. Hur described Mr. Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” who had “diminished faculties and faulty memory.” He did not declare Mr. Biden mentally incompetent to stand trial. Inaccurate attacks on judgesWhat Mr. Trump Said“Judge Juan Merchan is totally compromised, and should be removed from this TRUMP Non-Case immediately.

Opinion: RFK Jr.’s VP pick is a missile aimed at Biden

CNN —Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential campaign can’t win, but it could swing the presidency to former President Donald Trump. RFK Jr.’s namesake father was a Democratic US attorney general and a Democratic senator from New York. So was Joe’s son, RFK Jr’s nephew, Joseph P. Kennedy III. To believe that, one must ignore that Perot, like Clinton, was a change candidate; like Clinton, he was pro-choice, and like Clinton, Perot supported campaign finance reform. But you don’t need decades of experience and reams of data to see who RFK Jr’s bid hurts.

One of the most enduring bits of folk wisdom about American politics is the notion that a promise made on the campaign trail is almost never a promise kept. The only thing you can count on from a politician, and especially a presidential candidate, is that you can’t count on anything. There is, in fact, a strong connection between what a candidate says on the campaign trail and what a president does in office. In his 1992 campaign, Bill Clinton stressed jobs, unemployment, taxes and health care — encapsulated in his campaign’s refrain: “It’s the economy, stupid.” He followed through, in the first two years of his administration, with a proposed economic stimulus bill, a proposed health-care-reform bill and an upper-income tax increase. George W. Bush, in his 2000 campaign, emphasized educational reform and tax cuts, and followed through in the first months of his administration with No Child Left Behind and a large, upper-income tax cut.

Joe Biden is one of the most unpopular presidents in modern American history. In Gallup polling, his approval ratings are lower than those of any president embarking on a re-election campaign, from Dwight Eisenhower to Donald Trump. Apart from anxiety about his age, there isn’t a chattering-class consensus or common shorthand for why his presidency is such a political flop. When things went south for other recent chief executives, there was usually a clearer theory of what was happening. Trump’s unpopularity was understood to reflect his chaos and craziness and authoritarian forays.

Rite Aid filed plans to close 154 stores on Monday as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Rite Aid is the smallest of the three major drugstore chains, well behind CVS and Walgreens. Rite Aid was expected to close stores as part of its bankruptcy. Rite Aid told Insider that it considers a variety of factors when deciding to close a store, "including business strategy, lease and rent considerations, local business conditions and viability, and store performance." "We will also strive to transfer associates to other Rite Aid locations where possible," the company said.

In later years, she stepped over the White House threshold as a visiting senator and Cabinet member, but never in the long-sought role of Madam President. She fell short each time, and kept her distance from the White House during the Trump years. She again was a regular presence at the White House, with a seat next to Obama at the Cabinet table. She and President Clinton first celebrated the Praemium Imperiale prizes at the White House in 1994. She also showcased American sculpture in the first lady's garden at the White House.

Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs federal court after a plea hearing on two misdemeanor charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes in Wilmington, Delaware, U.S. July 26, 2023. REUTERS/Kevin WurmAug 12 (Reuters) - The appointment on Friday of a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden ensures that the criminal probe of the president’s son will cast a long shadow over his father’s reelection campaign. Hunter Biden in July pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to pay more than $100,000 in taxes owed on over $1.5 million in income in 2017 and 2018. Half of Americans believe Hunter Biden received preferential treatment from prosecutors who tried to reach a plea deal, a Reuters/Ipsos poll in June found before the plea deal fell apart. But most Americans said the Hunter Biden plea deal did not affect their likelihood of voting for Biden next year, the poll found.

Donald Trump was a big fan of Hillary Clinton's lawyer, prosecutors say. As prosecutors investigated his stashing of classified documents, Trump marveled how Clinton stayed out of trouble, the feds allege. Trump praised the lawyer in private, saying he "did a good job" deleting her emails. Trump praised Clinton's lawyer last year for deleting some of her email messages, marveling at how she stayed out of trouble, according to a stunning indictment from federal prosecutors. "And he was great... so she didn't get in any trouble," Trump said, according to the court filing.

Hillary Clinton's former aides say they can't enjoy Donald Trump's current legal problems. Trump called for Clinton to be jailed when the two squared off in the 2016 presidential race. But her former aides now say they're sad and scared for the country as he faces possible charges. Still, Trump managed to weave "crooked Hillary" references into his stump speech Saturday during his first 2024 campaign rally in Waco, Texas. A federal judge in January imposed nearly $1 million in sanctions on him and his lawyer for filing a "completely frivolous" lawsuit against her and others, claiming they tried to rig the 2016 election in her favor.
Hans-Rudolf Ruetti manages the Grandhotel Belvédère, where the most important WEF participants stay. For more than 50 years, what's now known as the World Economic Forum (WEF) has taken place in Davos, and every year, the Grandhotel Belvédère has hosted WEF guests. There are several events being put on by important guests, and this is always a challenging task when it comes to safety and security. We also built an additional three kitchens from where we can deliver food exclusively for hotel guests and events hosted here by the forum participants. There really isn't anything we at the hotel don't like about the WEF.
New York CNN Business —Stubborn inflation and the Federal Reserve’s jumbo-sized interest rate hikes will drive the American economy into a 1990-style mild recession starting in the spring, Fitch Ratings warned on Tuesday. “The US recession we expect is quite mild,” economists at Fitch Ratings said. “US household finances are much stronger now than in 2008, the banking system is healthier and there is little evidence of overbuilding in the housing market,” Fitch Ratings economists wrote. By contrast, Fitch Ratings sees the unemployment rate rising from just 3.5% today to 5.2% in 2024. “Fitch Ratings expects a very strong consumer balance sheet and the strongest labor market in decades to cushion the impact of a likely recession,” the report said.
Former President Bill Clinton says Democrats have a shot of holding Congress in 2022. But Clinton warned Republicans will "scare the living daylights" out of swing voters. Clinton told CNN Republicans "made critical race theory sound worse than smallpox" in 2021. Because they find some new way to scare the living daylights out of swing voters about something. Increased polarization and partisanship since Clinton held office in the 1990s means fewer persuadable swing voters and fewer willing to cross party lines.
